Notecards

What a gorgeous day it was today. The trees are all getting so green and the flowers are showing their colors. My husband and I worked in the garden today, planting annuals and getting our container garden ready for veggies and herbs. Then, as a reward, I took photos in my garden and in a nearby park.

I decided yesterday to look into selling notecards at some local shops as another photographic outlet. My very rudimentary plan is to work up a portfolio of images similar to the new "Spring" and "Spring II" images in the experimental section of my gallery, and use those as the notecard images. I think it would be a neat way of showing my work in my local area. What do you think? Worth a shot? If it ends up being a success I may start selling stationary packages through the website as well. So we'll see. Another good project to work on and it will be an interesting challenge coming up with enough of the composite floral images to produce a good spread of notecards. I like having a specific goal these days; with "real" work taking up so much time and energy it's tough to keep momentum. It'll give me an excellent excuse to spend time in my garden, as well.

Other news of the moment is that my husband and I have started talking again about our plans for moving in early fall. We're still pretty excited about the idea of having an "adventure" for a couple of years and seeing a different part of the country. Right now Colorado seems like the strongest contender, but we shall see as time progresses. I'm anxious to find out where we'll be and learn about the landscape and community. I might go back to get my Master's Degree after we move, so there's another reason I'm getting a bit antsy about knowing where we'll be. The fun and excitement outweighs the anxiety, of course!

And now, back to the photo-editing. Have a wonderful and peaceful night, everyone!

Hmm..

Today's photographic excapades resulted in a new twist on the "sandwiching" technique... one color image and one black and white. Check out the latest experiment!

Re-energized

I've finally pulled out of the slight photo slump I've been in since starting my new job. It's been pretty crazy adjusting to a new (earlier) schedule, figuring out transportation, studying for exams, and working on my paper for class. Honestly though, I shouldn't have let that stop me. It was so refreshing to get out there and just take a few pictures.

My new-found motivation is in part due to a friend at work who is interested in getting a Nikon D50. She was a little intimidated by all the bells and whistles that come with a digital SLR, so I brought in my D70 for her to try out. During our afternoon break we went out to the park across the street and I showed her the basics and we both snapped a couple of quick shots, more learning examples than art. But it was enough to get me jump started. I took the camera back out when I got home and tried to document the current stage of Spring that exists in my yard. Didn't have much of a time window, as the sun was setting, but it was great. I'm looking forward to my day off tomorrow so I can get out there and really get some photography in.

Anyway, I'm downloading the photos now, maybe some of them will find there way onto the site, so check back soon!

Toronto

A little glimpse from an amazing greenhouse in Toronto...

In other news, tomorrow is my first day off after starting my new job. It's going well so far, but I'll be glad to have some free time to take some pictures or mess around with the ones I took in Toronto.

Back in the USA

It's been a while since I've updated this here blog, but I have a good excuse! I've been in Toronto for about a week with my hubby - partly for his work, partly for a little vacation. It was fun, and of course photos were taken. In a few days I'll have had time to download and process them. Right now I'm still reeling a bit - got back at 1am and woke up for the first day at my new job at 6am, it's been quite the day. So goodnight for now, and check back later for new photos!
