Two Ways to Bring Autumn Color Indoors

Having a garden is such a treat - I am able to bring the fresh colors of the season indoors on a regular basis. These two plants, sedum and Chinese lanterns, are especially nice since they dry very easily and thus last a long time. The honeysuckle pink sedum came from my own garden, and the burnt orange Chinese lanterns were a gift from my mother in law.

What autumn colors are you loving right now?

August Break, Day 1: Fronds

For the month of August, I will be posting one photograph per day, with no words (aside from this introduction today). I hope you'll consider joining in!

Photographs on a Floral Theme

Springtime, soft colors, soft textures, smiles.

I've listed this series as a print set in my Etsy shop - don't you think it would make a lovely Mother's Day gift?

It's Looking Like a Beautiful Day

This song by Elbow just about sums up my mood this morning...

Also, I have a confession to make. I'm a perfectionist. It took me 45 minutes to get the color, contrast, and crop just right for the image below. And I loved every second of doing it.

Autumn Colour Week: Orange

I heard about this lovely idea via Geninne - Poppytalk is hosting an Autumn Colour Week on Flickr and on the Poppytalk Blog. Today's color is orange, and I had such fun taking a break from show preparations and taking photographs inspired by the vibrant colors of autumn. I hope you enjoy, and perhaps you'll feel inspired to take a few colorful photographs yourself!

Inspired by Early September

After taking the photo of various wildflowers in glass bottles at a natural history museum, I was inspired to arrange and photograph a few of my own little natural collections. I hope you enjoy them!

Gotta Make Hay While the Sun Shines...

... as Suzanne of Arts in RI has often said to me, you've gotta make hay while the sun shines. I felt the need to do something creative this afternoon, and had a little still life studio already set up in the dining room, so I went with it.

'Lantern', 'Azalea', and 'Oak', respectively:

Green Fields of France

The sun's shining down on these green fields of France;
The warm wind blows gently, and the red poppies dance.
The trenches have vanished long under the plow;
No gas and no barbed wire, no guns firing now.

More Flowers from the Yard

My coral bells have been so cheery lately. I took a few in-garden shots, and then decided to bring in a few cut flowers and take some still life photographs.

Hope Springs Eternal

This comic by Jerry Van Amerongen really spoke to me today:

I really like "Ballard Street" - the usual random humor especially. Read more about the artist & the strip here.

Blooms

Daffodils are finally blooming here in Smithfield. Down at my sister's house in South County, she's had flowers for weeks! But Spring has finally made it here, and I'm very happy about it.

I didn't want to cut my precious first flowers, and they border on the road, so rather than get myself run over attempting to photograph them, I chose an indoor blossom as my subject. This Gerbera Daisy was a gift from the same sister mentioned above, and apparently will purify our air! Nothing like clarity and fresh, benzene-free air to get the creative juices flowing!

Shorebird

This photo is part of my Natural History series, but it would work in my Ocean series as well, since terns are shorebirds.
