Two Ways to Bring Autumn Color Indoors

Having a garden is such a treat - I am able to bring the fresh colors of the season indoors on a regular basis. These two plants, sedum and Chinese lanterns, are especially nice since they dry very easily and thus last a long time. The honeysuckle pink sedum came from my own garden, and the burnt orange Chinese lanterns were a gift from my mother in law.

What autumn colors are you loving right now?

A Change in Seasons, A New Idea

The flowers of fall are blooming, a burst of color defying the cooler temperatures and shorter days.

As we head into this new season, I'm considering a new format for presenting images in my Etsy shop, and I'd like your opinion. Up until now, I've always added new images as they've been created. However, I'm wondering if it would be more fun and dramatic to add images as seasonal "collections". For example, the Fall 2010 collection would include all of the worthy photographs I took during the summer months.

If it were up to you, which format would you choose?

Thank you so much for your input, it means a lot to me!

Take the Time to Notice

Yesterday I picked and photographed these flowers from my garden. Today when I came home I was upset to see that the gas company had dug a trench through the garden - this particular plant was among the victims. I'm glad to have captured the blossoms while I had the chance.

Poetry of Summer Days

The languor of it and the dreaming fond;
Surging, the grasses dizzied me of thought,
The breeze three odors brought,
And a gem-flower waved in a wand!

Capturing Spring

I think instant film is an especially appropriate way to capture the soft colors and gentle light of early spring, don't you?

Swooning...

My ranunculus from The Greenery have opened up and are just breathtaking. I'm having so much fun photographing them and trying to do them justice...

Working for the Weekend

Hi there, thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a great weekend! :-)

White, Blue, Green... Spring Colors

I had been unsuccessfully shopping for paperwhites for a few weeks when my boss casually asked if I'd like a few spare bulbs. My reply, a resounding "YES!" They're blooming now and while the odor is reminiscent of burning tires, they sure are pretty to look at.

Hot Fun in the Summertime

It's hot out! Should be in the mid-90's this weekend, here in Rhode Island. I'm glad that our house is well-shaded - we're staying cool and comfortable inside. (I'm sure any readers from Arizona or Florida will scoff at my calling this hot!)

Despite the heat wave, I'm enjoying discovering all of the growing things coming up in the yard. It's our first June as homeowners, and it's magical to always have fresh flowers blooming around us. I also love the fact that, since it's our property, we can cut a few here and there and bring a piece of nature inside. Especially on a day like today when it's too hot to venture out for long!

Take this pretty Cow Parsley, for example:

Stay cool, and enjoy your weekend!

May Flowers

I stole some time away from busy art show preparations to take some photographs. I like the soft, dreamy feeling of this shot:

Warm April Days

I had plans to photograph either more natural history specimens or more beach scenes today, but wasn't able to do so. I was, however, able to procure some white clover seed with which to overseed our lawn! Perhaps not so photographically thrilling, but a good Earth Day purchase.

In lieu of the planned natural history/ocean photographs, I strolled around my yard and picked some flowers to photograph. I love the fact that I have a yard with flowers growing in it!
